Financial support in your time of need
The Lunds & Byerlys Family Assistance Fund was created in 2014 by Tres and his family as a way to provide our staff with an additional layer of financial support in their time of need. From providing shelter after natural disaster strikes, to helping with costs associated with an unexpected illness, our fund seeks to truly make a positive impact in the lives of our employees.
How it works
The Family Assistance Fund is a component of the Minneapolis Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and they administer this program on our behalf. We partnered with the Minneapolis Foundation to ensure complete confidentiality for the individuals applying for assistance. The Minneapolis Foundation reviews all applications and they are kept strictly confidential. In addition, the Minneapolis Foundation team will also direct our staff to United Way’s 211 phone number if they believe there are some additional benefits that would apply to our staff member.
Employees may apply submit an application for a grant from the Family Assistance Fund and receive up to $5,000 in assistance for each qualifying situation. Circumstances that may qualify include natural disasters, life-threatening or serious illness or injury, funeral expenses due to loss of life or catastrophic or extreme circumstances. All grants are tax-free to the recipients.
Where does this money come from?
The Family Assistance Fund is generously funded by donations from our company and our employees. All contributions are fully tax deductible and Lunds & Byerlys pays all administrative costs to ensure 100% of the contributions made to the fund are available to help members of our L&B family in their time of need.

The impact of the fund
We’ve had the pleasure of awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars to many members of our L&B family. While we don’t know who these individuals are unless they choose to share their story with us, we are heartened to know that here at Lunds & Byerlys we’re growing together through not only the good times, but also through those challenging times when an unexpected hardship creates a real financial hardship.
